Please give us a short summary of your website?
G.I.N. is a one stop shop for home and commercial audio video systems. We sell and install various AV custom install products from speaker wire and AV cables, to in wall & ceiling speakers, volume controls, speaker & av selectors, AV IR distributuon systems and home theater components. We also deal in 70 volt commercial audio systems, as well as CCTV security surveillance systems.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I am a true audiophile and everyone should have whole house audio, speakers cranking in every room in your home. I have speakers and volume controls in every room in the house, including my tub room, my bathroom and kitchen, as well as my upper deck and my lower front porch.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This was our first site from back in 2000.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I love martinis, and it is a clever acronym.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
Not only is ginelectronics.com a great one stop shop for someone building a new home, or just upgrading their AV system, our prices are great and our customer service in unsurpassed. A lady who is having a new house built can give us a phone call and we can help her choose the correct speaker wire and coax & cat5 cable, then when the drywall is up she'll come back for the in wall speakers and other compoennts. Moreover, we will help our customer understand the benefits and mechanations of AV Systems; we will make the seemingly confusing appear simple and exciting.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To keep selling great AV systems, while of course constantly upgrading my own. A home with a qualtiy music system is a happy home and we want to spread the wealth!
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
It is tough business environment out there, but we will do what it takes to keep doing what we love.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Not a whole lot, we could just spend more money to get the word out there about GIN Electronics. Once a customer finds us, they love us & keep coming back. It is just that the business world is huge and for a small company like GIN it is quite easy to get lost in the mess of capitalism.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
We would find a way!
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Our biggest cost is advertising and serach engine marketing, which is of course what has brought me here.
What has been your biggest challenge?
I hate to be redundant, but advertising and search engine marketing without a doubt.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Again, search engine marketing is the cat's meow, but there are hundreds, if not thousands of companies trying to do the same thing we are.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It has helped us learn to think more like consumers, especially consumers who do not have a lot of computer & web surfing experience, and those who know little about consumer electronics. One has to learn how to simplify.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Seven years, and we will keep on as long as we have customers.
