TV Converter Boxes Interview

Name of your website?

TV Converter Boxes

Your name?

Matt Mattelig

Your Location (city, etc)

Clinton, WI.

Please give us a short summary of your website?

A place to locate analog to digital tv converter boxes for cable, satellite dish network, local antenna & multicast subscribers. There is also a FAQ page and links to equipment and a link for the government subsidy rebate coupon.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I love television and a couple of years ago I purchased a HDTV. I was even more impressed with television and home theater. When the government mandated broadcasters to switch to digital signals, I thought this would be a good time to educate viewers and suggest quality products that would give them the same experience I was having.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

End of January, 2008. The site now is pretty much the same as the initial launch. As new questions come up, I answer them and also include new boxes as manufactures come online with those that qualify for the government rebate.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

It seemed a natural name.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

Both the FAQ and equipment pages are of my own voice. The recommendations are explained in detail. The viewer can make decisions about the equipment they need without having to follow a link off site.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Keep it for income until the conversion process is complete.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Still a bit too early to determine. People are just now getting the message about this upcoming change.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I'd like to be able to test all products.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes, it's pretty much on autopilot right now.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

The delays with manufacturers getting their products to market.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Finding time to do all the research required.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Search directories - sites such as this.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

None so far.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Just a couple of months. WIll continue until spring of 2009 when the conversion is suppose to be completed.

What change would you make if you had to do over?

I'd have started earlier and designed the site to be long lived instead of a site that ends after a certain date.

What is your website address?

Dear Matt:

Are you interested in selling your digital converters at wholesale? Also will you drop ship?

Thanks

Bob

tv converter boxes are good transition but ther are some limitations to it. first the format of digital tv is in 16:9 format so your new content will letterbox on your old tv, black bars and top and bottom. In addtion, if it's 4:3 content shown through the coverter and transmitted in 16:9 your tv will have boxes on all sides so it shrinks the image size for your tv.

I believe that after this is rolled out most folks will buy new tvs eventually as its annoying to have the black boxes.
